Lay Salvatorians -
The purpose of the Society of the Divine Saviour is to spread the Catholic faith and to enable all people everywhere to know more about God and Jesus Christ. The religious members of the Society live as community in many parts of the world and are engaged in apostolic service – that is, living a life of reaching out to people, becoming involved in the community and living according to Gospel values and also to be the presence of Christ in the world. In this way, they can make Jesus Christ known to all and teach all of His saving grace and mercy. The Salvatorian family includes priests, brothers, religious sisters and lay Salvatorians.
From the beginning, the founder of the Salvatorians, Venerable Francis Jordan realised the importance of lay people in bringing the word of God to others and of the need for religious and lay people working together to spread the Gospel message.
Lay Salvatorians are committed Christian men and women who want to live their lives according to Gospel values and who share the apostolic mission and spirituality of the Salvatorians. They may be married or single men and women but all share the same desire to explore more fully the role of ministry, leadership and apostolic mission within the context of the larger Salvatorian family. This work may take the form of being involved in parish work, in families, caring for the needy, social justice issues, teaching and ecumenical work and working alongside Salvatorian religious. While Lay Salvatorians do not take formal religious vows, they do complete a formation programme and after a period of discernment may make an annual formal commitment.
The Lay Salvatorian branch is more established in other countries such as the United States and Germany but there are currently three groups established in the UK.
While the groups in Britain are relatively newly established, they are not in Scotland
yet at the commitment stage We are in the process of setting up a branch in Fife
and hope that this can take-
